Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Butter an oval baking dish (you can also use a round baking dish). In a medium mixing bowl, add 1 cup of sugar and flour. Whisk the sugar and flour together, and then whisk in the milk. Pour in the melted butter and continue to whisk until fully incorporated.
If using fresh blackberries, give them a rinse and pat them dry.
Pour batter into your buttered baking dish and sprinkle the fruit evenly over the top. Sprinkle remaining sugar over the top.
Bake for 45 minutes – 1 hour, until cobbler is golden brown and the fruit is bubbling up on the sides.
Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream or both!
